Manchester City have had a £38m bid for Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci turned down by Juventus, according to Sky sources.

The 29-year-old centre-back shone for Italy at Euro 2016 before they were knocked out by Germany in the quarter-finals.

Bonucci has been a mainstay of the Juventus defence since joining the club six years ago from Bari.

He has made almost 250 appearances for the Serie A champions, scoring 13 goals, and 62 caps for Italy, with four goals.

New City boss Pep Guardiola has set about improving his squad already, with the club having signed Spain international striker Nolito from Celta Vigo, young Ukrainian winger Oleksandr Zinchenko this month and Australia international Aaron Mooy.
