Manchester City medics treated an injured Liverpool fan on their way back from Anfield at almost the same spot their team bus had been attacked.

City's players and management watched on from their replacement coach as the female was treated after she was involved in a collision with a car, yards from the Arkles pub.

They continued to treat her until an ambulance was able to reach the scene of the incident, which happened after Liverpool's 3-0 win over City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Hours earlier, City's original team bus had been attacked by supporters lining their route to Liverpool's home ground.

Missiles were thrown at the bus, which had to be replaced after windows were cracked and shattered, making it unfit for use on the return journey.

The club apologised to City before kick-off, condemning the scenes which took place in the run-up to the fixture and led to two Merseyside Police officers sustaining minor injuries.

On Thursday, UEFA charged Liverpool over the trouble before the match as well as incidents inside the ground, where fireworks were set off.
