Rudy Gestede has passed a medical at Middlesbrough ahead of his move from Aston Villa.
The clubs agreed a £6m fee for Gestede over the weekend, and the Benin striker came through a medical examination on Teesside on Tuesday evening.
He will be announced as Boro's first January signing on Wednesday on what is understood to be a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Villa bought Gestede, 28, from Blackburn Rovers in July 2015 for a fee of £6m.
He has made 19 appearances for the Sky Bet Championship side so far this season, scoring four goals.
Gestede will compete with Alvaro Negredo and Christian Stuani for playing time on Teesside.
His arrival is expected to hasten the departure of David Nugent and/or Jordan Rhodes to the Championship.
