Watford are considering a loan move for Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul, according to Sky sources.

Walter Mazzarri is thought to be contemplating seeking cover before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.

Costel Pantilimon has been ruled out for between three and four weeks with an injury sustained in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to League One side Millwall at the weekend.

Although Heurelho Gomes is considered as the club's No 1, Pantilimon's absence leaves Watford short of experienced back-up.

Lithuanian international Giedrius Arlauskis has played only twice for the club, while Irishman Rene Gilmartin has never made a first-team appearance.

Krul, on the other hand, has made more than 200 appearances for Newcastle and in loan spells at Falkirk and Carlisle since he made his senior debut more than a decade ago.

He has been on a season-long loan at Dutch side Ajax this term but has not played having been kept out of the team by Andre Onana.
