Sky Sports News understands Birmingham City will join the race to sign in-demand Oxford United winger Marvin Johnson.
Johnson, who was born in Birmingham, was the subject of a bid from the Blues' Sky Bet Championship rivals Hull City earlier this month.
Hull's bid for Johnson is understood to have been around £1m - he cost Oxford in the region of £650,000 when joining from Motherwell last summer.
Oxford chairman Darryl Eales had previously told a fans' forum that it would take an "unbelievable offer" for the club to allow Johnson to leave.
But Sky Sports News reported last week that the 26-year-old has asked to leave the League One side.
Johnson was then omitted from Oxford's squad for the clash with Scunthorpe on Saturday with boss Pep Clotet saying he had developed "tightness" in his hamstring.
Clotet also said it was vital a resolution to Johnson's future was found quickly.
The former Kidderminster wide man scored three goals in 39 League One appearances in his first season at the Kassam Stadium.
