West Bromwich Albion have rejected an approach from Derby County to take winger James McClean on loan, Sky Sports News understands.

Rams boss Gary Rowett is keen to add a winger to his squad and wanted McClean to bring some attacking flair to Derby's promotion push, but Albion have rebuffed the approach outright.

Alan Pardew sees 28-year-old McClean as a key member of the squad as they battle relegation.

SSN understands reports that Derby tabled a £6m bid for the Republic of Ireland international are wide of the mark.

McClean has made 23 appearances for West Brom this season and although 15 of those have been as a substitute, he has made five starts since Alan Pardew replaced Tony Pulis as manager.
