Bournemouth have agreed a deal with Sheffield Wednesday to sign left-back Rhoys Wiggins, according to Sky sources.

Wiggins only joined the Owls in the summer transfer window from Charlton Athletic, but he has struggled to make an impression at Hillsborough.

The 28-year-old Welsh defender has played just nine times for Carlos Carvalhal's side, and was understood to be keen to move elsewhere in the search of more regular action.

The arrival of Joe Bennett from Aston Villa earlier this month has pushed Wiggins further down the pecking order at Wednesday.

Wiggins enjoyed successful loan spells with Bournemouth in both 2009 and 2010, helping the Cherries earn promotion to League One in his second spell with the club.

He earned a permanent move to Bournemouth ahead of the 2010/11 campaign and featured 40 times in all competitions before leaving for Charlton in the summer of 2011.
