Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Lewis McGugan has left the club by mutual consent.

The former Watford player spent two spells on loan at Hillsborough before eventually joining the Owls on a permanent deal in July 2015.

McGugan scored nine goals in 39 appearances for Wednesday but has not featured for them this season and is now deemed surplus to requirements.

The Owls signed Heerenveen defender Joost van Aken on Wednesday, while George Boyd made the move from Burnley after his contract expired.
