Cardiff City sack head coach Paul Trollope with immediate effect

Cardiff City season preview

Cardiff City have sacked head coach Paul Trollope with immediate effect.

A record of just two league wins from 11 matches - leaving the club second bottom of the table - has prompted chief executive Ken Choo to act.

Neil Warnock is the early favourite with the bookmakers to replace Trollope.

A club statement read: "We'd like to thank Paul for his efforts and wish him the very best of luck for the future.

"Assistant coach Lennie Lawrence and performance director Ryland Morgans have also left the club with our best wishes. An announcement regarding Paul's successor will be made in due course."

Speaking after the 2-0 weekend defeat at Burton, Trollope said: "I certainly hope I'll get time. I've received great support so far, the results haven't been good enough.

"I hold my hand up there. It's certainly not we've worked so, so hard for or expected."

Trollope had spent five years in charge of Bristol Rovers until 2010 and took over at Cardiff in May.  As well as his travails in the league, he also oversaw a 1-0 defeat in the EFL Cup at the hands of his old club.

Cardiff play Bristol City on October 14 when the Championship resumes following the international break.
