Claudio Ranieri insists he did not need nor ask Leicester to issue a statement of support for his management - but it does end the speculation.

The champions pledged their "unwavering support" for the beleaguered Italian on Tuesday, whose side hover just a point above the relegation places after four straight Premier League defeats.

Ranieri told Sky Sports last month that he was not immune to the sack but insisted ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round replay against Derby that his relationship with the club has been as "normal" as ever.

He told the media: "The statement is okay for you because it finishes all the speculation.

"I don't need to ask because for me it was normal, when you listen often to the chairman and the club. For me, the relationship is important.

"I understand football. Football is this; you win three matches, you are god. You lose three matches, you are gone.

"I have all the confidence that the club is with me. For me my job is the same; focus on the next match. It's okay. It's important to find the right solution for my players."

A newspaper report on Tuesday claimed Leicester's players had been frustrated that Ranieri had changed their post-match food from chicken burgers to pasta, but the Italian played it down and insisted his squad are all behind him.

"I never saw chicken burgers. I saw deep-fried chicken and it was very good, I like it a lot," Ranieri said. "It's fantastic. Everybody likes this. Even before the match we eat this. Pasta; not often. I don't like pasta.

"I said to my players, 'my door is always open'. Sometimes I come to them, sometimes they come to me. It's a fantastic relationship. This season even more so, because when things don't go well, it's important we are together.

"The players are reading what the media are writing, and then they want to support everyone. It's normal."
