Monaco will make an approach for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani once they have sold Kylian Mbappe to Paris Saint-Germain, Sky sources understand.

Sky Sports News understands Mbappe is expected to join Monaco's Ligue 1 rivals in the next 72 hours and that deal will be contingent on them making an official move to find a replacement.

Slimani, a £29m signing from Sporting Lisbon last summer, has also attracted interest from Leicester's fellow Premier League competitors Watford and Newcastle as well as other clubs across Europe.

The 29-year-old has appeared in two Premier League so far this season, both off the bench, and he scored twice in Leicester's 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Sheffield United last week.

He scored seven Premier League goals in his first season in England but was never able to secure a regular berth in Leicester's starting XI.

Sky Sports News reported on Saturday that Slimani was one of three possible targets to replace Mbappe, along with Chelsea outcast Diego Costa and Torino's Andrea Belotti.
