Dinamo Zagreb defender Filip Benkovic will fly to England later today for further talks with Leicester City about a possible move in excess of £10m.
The Croatia U21 international plays as a central defender, but it is understood that Leicester boss Claude Puel considers him as a good prospect for the future, rather than someone who can go straight into the first team.
Leicester do not view the 21-year-old as a replacement for Harry Maguire, with the club remaining adamant that the England defender will not be sold in this transfer window, even if Manchester United table a world record bid.
According to Sky sources, Leicester made an enquiry for Brentford's Chris Mepham last week, but were knocked back.
The Bees do not want to sell the 20-year-old centre-back, who has also been a target for Bournemouth, and it would take an offer of more than £20m for them to even consider a sale.
A graduate of Dinamo Zagreb's youth academy, Benkovic made his debut for the Croatian champions against NK Osijek in July 2015.
