Barnsley are set to appoint Daniel Stendel as their new head coach, according to Sky sources.
Stendel had previously served as head coach of Bundesliga side Hannover 96 after he was appointed in April 2016.
He had been in charge of the club's U19 side before stepping up to the senior squad.
However, the 44-year-old left the club in March last year.
Barnsley have been searching for a replacement for Jose Morais, who was sacked after the club were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship on the final day of the season.
Morais was appointed after Paul Heckingbottom left to take over at Leeds in February but Barnsley struggled, with the Portuguese winning just three of his 15 games in charge.
He had worked as part of Jose Mourinho's staff during his time at Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Heckingbottom was sacked as Leeds head coach after less than four months in charge last week.
