Leeds United are interested in signing Carpi striker Jerry Mbakogu, according to Sky sources.
Mbakogu has scored eight goals in 20 appearances for the Serie B club this season and Leeds value the 25-year-old at around £3.5m.
One source has told Sky Sports that the deal is unlikely to be completed before Wednesday's deadline and, if an agreement is reached between the two clubs, the transfer will go through in the summer instead.
Leeds have already signed five senior players in the January window, with Aapo Halme, Yosuke Ideguchi, Laurens De Bock, Oliver Sarkic and Adam Forshaw completing permanent moves to Elland Road.
Leeds are currently ninth place in the Championship table - five points adrift of the play-off places.
