Nottingham Forest in takeover talks with Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis

Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis is in talks concerning a majority investment at Nottingham Forest, according to Sky sources.

It is understood a deal will be for an 80 per cent share of the Championship club and it is currently at the due diligence stage, which could take a few weeks to complete.

Marinakis, who bought a controlling stake in Olympiakos in 2010, would also have to pass the owners' and directors' tests before any possible takeover of Forest can be completed.

Current Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi could stay on at the club in some capacity, even if Marinakis assumes control.

The EFL are working with all parties after Forest's transfer ban last year.

Forest are also still looking for a new head coach following the departure of caretaker boss Paul Williams at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Any announcement on a new permanent head coach is likely to take place before any takeover is ratified.

Forest finished in 16th place last season, winning just 13 of their 46 Championship matches.
