Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie is heading for a Sky Bet Championship club on loan, Sky Sports News has been told.

Sunderland and Barnsley appear to be in pole position to sign the 21-year-old, after chairman Huw Jenkins told Sky Sports News he would be heading to the Championship.

Swansea's Premier League rivals Burnley and Scottish Premiership club Rangers are also interested in McBurnie.

McBurnie has failed to make a significant first-team breakthrough at the Liberty Stadium but has been a prolific scorer for Swansea's U23 side.

The Scotland U21 international has made three more Premier League appearances this season but an August loan move to Barnsley fell through on Deadline Day.

McBurnie has also played for Chester, Bristol Rovers and Newport County during loan spells, the last two since he joined Swansea from Bradford City in the summer of 2015.

The deal he signed on his arrival in south Wales is set to expire this summer.
