Premier League Manchester City are the least local club in England

How local is your club?

AFC Wimbledon have more local players than any other club in England's top four tiers - but Manchester City's players come from much further afield.

On average, AFC Wimbledon players were born just 55 miles away from the League Two club's Kingsmeadow stadium.

In contrast, the average distance between Manchester City's Etihad Stadium and their players' birthplace is 3,089 miles. The combined distance between Man City players' hometown and the Etihad is 67,977 miles - the equivalent to nearly three trips around the world.

Sky Sports calculated the direct mileage between club stadiums and the birthplaces for all players in England's top four tiers who have played 90 league minutes or more this season.

Other clubs with locally-sourced players include League Two Morecambe (62.1 miles average), League One Rochdale (74.5 miles) and League Two Accrington (75 miles), while Championship clubs MK Dons (95.3 miles) and Bristol City (97 miles) are fifth and sixth in the table, respectively.

As well as Man City, Premier League sides Chelsea (2,333 miles average), Watford (1,932 miles) and Championship outfit Middlesbrough (1,745 miles) have also brought in a number of players far from their traditional base.
