Marc Wilson has joined West Brom on loan move from Bournemouth for the remainder of the season.

Wilson, 29, will move to the Hawthorns and link up with Tony Pulis, who he played for during his time with Stoke City and becomes the Baggies' second signing of the window following Jake Livermore's arrival from Hull City.

Pulis said: "We've brought in Marc who is certainly going to be a help to us. He can play in a number positions - at full back, in midfield, in defence, centre half … he gives us more cover and that is going to be important. I know him well and he knows how I work.

"We tried for quite a few but the prices and the opportunity to get them were just not there for us. We are fishing from such a small pool and trying to improve the starting XI, which is what we want to do, is not easy.

"It's a small group but they are tight together and now it's up to us to keep them fit, keep them away from suspensions and keep them working hard.

"Jake has come in and I have no doubts he will do very well for us and in Marc we know we have someone who has the experience to step in there if we run into problems."

Republic of Ireland international Wilson only made three appearances for the Cherries this season, however, with all those games coming in both the EFL Cup and FA Cup.

"We were reluctant to lose another defender," Cherries boss Eddie Howe explained. "However, in this situation we felt we could not stand in Marc's way after the reasons he gave, which will remain private."

Wilson started his career at Portsmouth but spent time out on loan while at the club, including two spells with Bournemouth.

West Brom boss Pulis had been reportedly linked with a move for Branislav Ivanovic in a bid to bolster the Baggies backline, but missed out on the defender ahead of a move to Zenit St Petersburg.
