Chesterfield are set to confirm the signing of ex-Brighton striker Chris O'Grady as their highest paid player of all time.

The 31-year-old was released by the Seagulls this summer and will join the Sky Bet League Two side on a two-year deal after completing a medical.

O'Grady spent last term on loan at Burton Albion in the Championship, where scored once in 29 league appearances.

The Spireites have been on the hunt for a new centre-forward after selling Ched Evans to local rivals Sheffield United.

O'Grady previously spent time on loan at the Blades as well as Nottingham Forest, after signing for Brighton from Barnsley in 2014.

The Nottingham-born forward began his career at Leicester, where he broke through from the academy in 2003, before spells with Rotherham and Oldham.

He then has a prolific season at Rochdale in the 2010/11 campaign, earning him a move to Sheffield Wednesday before spending another good season with Barnsley in 2013/14 following an initial loan.
