Southampton have recalled forward Sam Gallagher from his loan spell at MK Dons.

The 20-year-old made 15 appearances - six of which were starts - after joining the club in July.

His most recent appearance came from the bench in MK Dons' defeat to Birmingham just after Christmas.

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson admitted Gallagher had fallen down the pecking with the Championship side and it was felt a return to his parent club would be better for the player's development.

Robinson told MK Dons' official website: "Sam's attitude has been spot on and he's always given everything - it's unfortunate that things haven't worked out.

"He has found opportunities limited and it's vital, at his age, that he is playing games on a regular basis and we never want to stand in the way of a young player doing that.

"We are thankful to Southampton for their help and co-operation. I have no doubts that Sam will be a top, top player in the future and we wish him all the best."
