Roy Keane admits he wants to return to club management but refused to be drawn on the possibility of taking over at Celtic this summer.
The Scottish champions confirmed on Wednesday that boss Ronny Deila has decided to leave the club at the end of the season after less than two years in Glasgow.
Keane, who spent six months at Celtic Park before retiring as a player, has been reportedly linked with the job in the past and his name has re-emerged as a potential candidate to replace Deila alongside David Moyes and former manager Neil Lennon.
The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss admitted he is eager to return to club management at some point in the future. Keane has been Martin O'Neill's right-hand man since November 2013, with the pair set to lead Ireland to Euro 2016 this summer.
Asked if a return to club management is in his long-term plans, Keane said: "And the shorter term, as well. I'm not going to be an assistant for the next 20 years, having said that I am enjoying my role.
"You have to learn from your own mistakes. It's no good me analysing Martin all the time, obviously I've my own personality and hopefully I can get back into that soon.
"Obviously, I'm under contract until the summer with the FAI and I'm not going to lose sight of that.
"There are always jobs out there and I'm not going out looking for jobs, if people want you they come looking for you. I'm enjoying it with Martin, but the best place for me to learn is back in the hotseat."
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas thinks Keane would be the ideal choice to take over at Celtic, but the Republic of Ireland assistant refused to entertain the question when he was asked at a 'Winning in Business' event in Cork.
"I've two jobs, ITV and Ireland," he said. "Nah, no. No comment."
