Joe Garner is expected to complete a move to Rangers this week after deciding he wants to leave Preston, according to Sky sources.
It is understood the forward has already said goodbye to his team-mates at Deepdale as he looks to make the switch to the Scottish Premiership side.
An agreement has still to be reached on a transfer which is expected to cost well in excess of £1m as Mark Warburton gets set to make what would be his 10th summer signing.
Garner, 28, has scored 57 goals in 152 appearances for Preston since joining the club from Watford in 2013, with 128 of those coming in the starting XI; he was left out of the Preston side to tackle Derby at Deepdale on Tuesday night.
Speaking after the 1-0 home defeat, North End boss Simon Grayson said: "I expect him to have a medical in the next 24 hours or so.
"I've said all along that we didn't have to sell him or want to but when the bid came in it's only fair to ask a player.
"Joe stressed all along that he wanted to pursue the option of going to Rangers. It's disappointing but it's Joe's decision."
Garner only scored six times in 44 Sky Bet Championship games last season but was prolific over the previous two campaigns in League One, netting 51 times in 88 games overall.
Another player who could join him at Ibrox is former Arsenal centre-back Philippe Senderos. The Switzerland international is spending the week training with Warburton's squad after leaving Grasshoppers.
Warburton said: "He is training for a week with us. We spoke to Philippe and to his agent and obviously he is a very talented player with a very impressive CV.
"It is a case of he has not been training with a team, so he is in for a week with us and nothing more than that.
"He has an impressive CV both domestically and internationally, he is 31 and came in this morning and trained.
"He looks very good technically from his background and physically he looks in good shape so we will have him in for a week and then see what that leads to."
Rangers, meanwhile, are waiting on news of how serious midfielder Jason Holt's ankle problem is and he will be assessed this week.
Striker Martyn Waghorn is making good progress after a small hamstring tear, while Matt Crooks is now in full training after ankle surgery and Josh Windass is close to doing the same after a nerve problem.
Warburton said: "Jason had an operation previously on the ankle and he rolled it in training. We hoped it would have resolved itself but then he had some discomfort.
"He is too important to risk, and players' welfare is a key aspect to us so we will get him looked at and make sure he is OK. Hopefully we can welcome him back very shortly."
