Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman Kenny Cameron has warned Dundee United off making a move for manager John Hughes.
The 51-year-old has been linked with the post at Tannadice after Jackie McNamara's departure was confirmed on Tuesday.
Hughes led the Highland side to third place in the Scottish Premiership last year as well as a maiden Scottish Cup win in a hugely successful season.
He replaced Terry Butcher two years ago at the Caledonian Stadium and chairman Cameron is determined to see Hughes carry on his work at the club
Ahead of the Highland derby against Ross County this weekend Cameron was quoted in the Daily Record saying: "Since joining the club in late 2013, John's leadership has been inspirational.
"We're all looking forward to continued success together this season and beyond. We have just had our best season ever, the most successful in the club's short history.
"Everybody remains fully focused on the first local derby of the season."
Elsewhere, Scotland assistant Stuart McCall has ruled himself out of returning to Motherwell following Ian Baraclough's dismissal but refused to distance himself from the United job.
McCall told Sky Sports News HQ: "Regarding Dundee United, a bigger club and fanbase wise, certainly a bigger budget [than Motherwell], I think the third biggest in Scotland, good history, been in a couple of Scottish Cup finals of late, should be challenging for a European spot, so that might be one of interest."
