St Mirren want to appoint former Hibernian boss Alan Stubbs as their new manager, Sky Sports News understands.

The Scottish Championship team hope to get an answer from Stubbs and agree personal terms with the 46-year-old by the start of next week.

Stubbs, who led Hibernian to their first Scottish Cup win in 114 years in 2016, has been out of work since he left Rotherham five months after the Easter Road club's win over Rangers at Hampden.

St Mirren, on their way back to the Premiership after a three-year absence, have been searching for a new manager since Jack Ross agreed to move to Sunderland two weeks ago.
