Bundesliga round-up: Dortmund close in on Bayern after Wolfsburg win

Borussia Dortmund moved to within five points of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table after a dramatic late win at Wolfsburg.

After Bayern slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach earlier on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel's side became the first team to beat Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena in 30 attempts.

Marco Reus gave Dortmund the lead, but Ricardo Rodriguez's penalty in stoppage time seemed like it had salvaged the Wolves a point to preserve their record.

However, Dortmund moved 10 points clear of their hosts thanks to a Shinji Kagawa goal with almost the last kick of the game.

Hertha Berlin benefited by throwing their hat into the ring for a place in the Champions League next season, securing a 2-1 win over 10-man Bayer Leverkusen that moved them up to fourth, a point ahead of Wolfsburg.

Vladimir Darida gave Pal Dardai's men the lead before Sebastian Boenisch received his marching orders, leaving his side with 10 men for over 70 minutes.

Javier Hernandez brought Roger Schmidt's men level, but John Anthony Brooks headed Hertha's winner at the Olympiastadion to put five points between the two clubs who came into the game in fifth and sixth place respectively.

At the bottom of the table, there was an important win for Augsburg thanks to a Raul Bobadilla goal in Cologne, and a last-gasp point for Hoffenheim, who drew 1-1 at Ingolstadt.

Finally, Mainz leapfrogged Hamburg in the standings with a 3-1 win at the Volksparkstadion to bring an end to the hosts' three-game unbeaten streak.
