League of Ireland champions Dundalk have been drawn against Zenit St Petersburg, AZ Alkmaar and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Europa League group stage.

Stephen Kenny's men, who lost to Legia Warsaw in a Champions League qualifier, face two long-distance trips - to Russia and Israel - when the group stages kick-off next month.

Travelling aside, Dundalk could have potentially faced tougher opposition after avoiding the likes of Manchester United, Inter Milan and Roma in Friday's draw.

Dundalk watched the draw in Wexford where they play a League of Ireland fixture tonight.

Their home matches in the competition could be played at the Tallaght Stadium, with their Oriel Park home not meeting UEFA requirements.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will face Fenerbahce, Feyenoord and Zorya Luhansk in Group A, while Southampton are in Group K with Inter Milan, Sparta Prague and Hapoel Be'er Sheva.
