Gordon Strachan's future as Scotland boss will be discussed at a Scottish FA board meeting on Thursday, according to Sky sources.
Strachan, who is contracted until the end of November, will not be present at the meeting in Hampden Park.
Scotland failed to qualify for the World Cup play-offs, finishing third in Group F, and Strachan has refused to comment on whether he wants to continue in the role.
Speaking after the 2-2 draw with Slovenia on Sunday, Strachan said: "You know what I'm like - at this moment, I'm the last person thinking about [the future] - a lot of people will be thinking about it.
"But the players in there, I've got to look after them. Not a problem about me. I'm really proud to be the manager."
Strachan took over from Craig Levein in January 2013 and has overseen two full qualification campaigns, including Euro 2016 as well as World Cup 2018.
Scotland have failed to qualify for a major tournament since the World Cup in France in 1998.
