Frank Lampard insists he needs a full pre-season of preparation for New York City FC rather than a loan return to the Premier League.

The former Chelsea midfielder has suffered several injury problems since making his New York City FC debut in August, making just eight appearances.

And despite reports in The Sun linking team-mate David Villa with a transfer to England on loan until January, Lampard says the rest and preparation is more important than a short-term move.

When asked about his plans for the winter break, Lampard said: "I need the rest to be fully fit next year for the club.

"I wish I could have not had the injuries, but every player has to accept that injuries come along sometimes.

"My aim now is to manage myself well for next season, to finish this season on a high, have some breaks at times, but keep ticking over, have a really good pre-season and throw everything into next year."
