Xavi thinks his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola would give "real consideration" to signing Jack Wilshere in the summer, if he is available.

For the first time in several seasons, Wilshere has been playing regularly while on a season-long loan at Bournemouth from Arsenal.

He has 18 months left on his contract with the Gunners, but says he will not decide on his future until the summer.

Manchester City manager Guardiola faced Wilshere when Barcelona met Arsenal in the Champions League in 2011.

And Xavi, who played in that two-legged last-16 match, told Fox Latin America: "I know Pep has always had a lot of respect for Wilshere - he impressed so many of the Barcelona team when we played Arsenal in 2011.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says he'd love to sign Jack Wilshere permanently from Arsenal, but admits no talks have taken place

"He impressed me a lot that night, I know he also did Pep and it will be a player that he would have been following ever since. We have talked about him, it was not a performance you forget easily.

"Technically he is the sort of player that Pep loves - his only problem has been injuries - and if it wasn't for the issues he has had with injuries I am sure he would be one of the best midfield players in the world.
