St. Mary's Stadium
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 STOKE
SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 STOKE
The final whistle brings to an end a tense and nervy encounter as Redmond protests that a free-kick wasn't allowed to be taken.
Ndiaye clashes with Martins Indi over the concession of the free-kick, but that was a really poor game that neither team deserved to win.
90+1: The quality in the final third just hasn't been good enough. There's four consecutive away games on the horizon for Southampton.
Stoke look set to still be locked on just the one away win this season. They've got a tough run coming up, too.
90: Ndiaye is a long way out as the rain starts to come down and he is quite a way from hitting the target. We're into two minutes of additional time.
89: Crouch is juggling with the ball inside Southampton's six-yard box when surely he should shoot, but he does find Pieters before the header across goal is scrambled clear. It would've been a really scrappy winner to suit the game.
Stephens was again the man doing the defending.
88: CHANCE! Boufal picks up the ball down the left and as he crosses for Gabbiadini, it bobbles just in front of the Italian but the air-shot allows the cross to come through for Long to drag an effort wide!
85: That's a good ball by Allen to find Jese, who dribbles forward before Stephens stays on his feet to knock the ball behind for a second Stoke corner in quick succession. Allen to deliver, but it eludes everybody before Bertrand clears.
84: Lambert shakes his head at referee Taylor as Long fouls Bauer on the touchline. He wants more than a free-kick but Southampton deal with the danger.
83: Shaqiri's cross is a beauty and Crouch is bracing himself to head in before Stephens makes a vital touch to head the ball behind.
81: Every time Bauer gives a free-kick away he pleads his innocence, but he's nowhere near the ball and fouls Redmond. Here's another chance to put pressure on the Stoke defence.
Bauer atones for the mistake by heading clear before Cedric is miles wide with his hurried shot from distance.
79: SUB! Southampton are making their final change as Shane Long replaces Carrillo.
77: WHAT A MISS! Oh, what a chance to make the perfect introduction for Boufal as Redmond does brilliantly to stand up the cross from the right but the substitute can only put his free header from six yards out wide of the post!
76: SUB! Southampton make their second change as Sofiane Boufal comes on for Sims, who gets a generous applause as he is replaced.
74: Butland gets down to save again from Redmond after he checked inside Allen and Zouma clears under pressure from Carrillo.
Stoke are rocking a little as Sims does well to get beyond Pieters down the right, it's such an inviting ball but Butland does well to collect low down.
73: SAVE! Stoke keep coming up with the answers as Butland gets down to his left to get two hands on Redmond's low shot from distance. The home crowd are getting behind their team and they look the most likely at the moment.
Bauer concedes a silly free-kick for a foul on Bertrand. What a stupid push to put his team under pressure...
71: OFFSIDE! Southampton continue to ask questions as Zouma's headed clearance is recycled and sent wide to Cedric, but Gabbiadini is caught offside as the danger subsides.
70: Stoke are defending again as Cedric plays in Bertrand beautifully and there's shouts for handball as the full-back's shot is deflected behind by Pieters off his arms, but there's no way he had time to get out the way of that. Stoke are holding out well.
69: WIDE! The pace and intensity is picking up midway through this second half as Crouch decides to ignore Shaqiri to his right and has a go from outside the box but his effort is a yard or so wide!
67: SAVE! Good play from Redmond as he receives Gabbiadini's pass before Martins Indi's clearance is straight to Cedric and he forces Butland to tip the ball around the post after a fine right-footed half volley that was veering towards the top corner!
65: SUBS! Change for both sides as Jese replaces Choupo-Moting and Gabbiadini is on for Tadic.
63: The Southampton fans are jeering Peter Crouch as he goes to ground inside the box following Choupo-Moting's delivery. He instigated that by leaning into Bertrand. Nice try.
Ndiaye then again avoids the booking after pulling back Lemina. How's he getting away without being booked?
61: CHANCE! Crouch does brilliantly to flick on Butland's goal kick and Choupo-Moting is away... he dithers and allows Hoedt to get back and get his boot onto the ball and send the shot over the bar.
The officials didn't see the clear deflection and award Southampton with the goal kick!
60: That sums the game. Redmond drives forward with the ball and lays it off to his right where Lemina lets fly but the ball is double the crossbar and into the car park, almost.
59: SAVE! Better from Southampton as Cedric takes Carrillo's flick on before setting up Sims but he can't generate enough power on his right-footed shot as Butland gets down to his right to make the save.
58: Sims does well to win a free-kick off Pieters, and Zouma clears Cedric's ball. Bertrand then completely shanks his delivery from the left. The good news is that there's just over half an hour to go in this one.
57: Carrillo is frustrated at giving the ball away as he gets up and takes out Choupo-Moting, but Taylor keeps his cards in his pocket again. It's not been the Saints' record-signing's game so far.
55: Southampton are racking up the corners but again Butland comes to punch clear before Taylor spots an infringement. Allen races across the pitch to close down Bertrand, twice.
Great desire from the Welshman, who has been at the fore of this one with his work rate.
54: Good goalkeeping from McCarthy as he takes Bauer's cross confidently. Lemina gets Southampton up the field before feeding Redmond, and the winger's ball towards Carrillo is forced behind.
52: The standard of finishing from Stoke has been poor to say the least as things open up for Choupo-Moting but his effort is high, wide and not very handsome. It's the same problem for Southampton.
51: Both managers are out of their dugouts and prowling the touchline. It's going to be an intriguing battle, the fight to stay up with both these teams desperate for three points, not the one.
50: Carrillo does well to win the aerial duel with Zouma really well but Martins Indi uses his strength to shepherd the ball out after Sims had tried to cut inside him.
Moments later, Crouch does everything right as he takes the ball down but then tries an audacious effort - a little like a goal he scored for Stoke against Manchester City all those years ago - but he gets this one all wrong, sending his shot miles over the bar.
47: SAVE! Southampton are out the blocks quickly as Shaqiri is caught out allowing Sims to have a shot on goal but Butland gets down to force the ball behind with his feet.
First shot on goal and just seconds into this second half! Sim opted for the side foot but he should've gone across goal.
WE'RE BACK UNDERWAY!
46: SUB! Southampton emerge for the second-half and they see the sight of Peter Crouch waiting to get on the pitch. He's come on for Kostas Stafylidis as Stoke make another tactical change.
Cedric's ball from the right towards Carrillo is well cleared by Zouma. He and Martins Indi have held things together well in these opening 45 minutes. The half-time whistle blows and it is greeted with boos from the home fans.
The closest we've come to a goal was from Badou Ndiaye, with his header tipped around the post by Alex McCarthy. We're goalless at the break.
45+3: Shaqiri is at the heart of everything good about Stoke in the attacking third as the Swiss gets on the ball again but Choupo-Moting seems to lose his bearings as his looped effort is easily gathered by McCarthy.
Southampton go down the other end as Bertrand nutmegs Shaqiri and tries to pick out Tadic but he can't get his body into a position to shoot.
45+1: Redmond looks to get an early ball into Carrillo and it's a cracker, forcing Cameron to miscue his clearance behind for a corner. Redmond's cross is too deep this time and Hoedt can't retrieve it. Goal-kick Stoke. It's not been a classic.
45: Bertrand is unable to get his way around Allen, who has impressed for Stoke so far. Due to Diouf's injury there will be five minutes of stoppage time at the end of this first half.
42: SAVE! What a chance for Stoke as Allen lays the ball off to Shaqiri and his left-foot cross is onto the head of Ndiaye but McCarthy gets down to his left to make a brilliant save around the post!
41: BOOKED! Cameron is booked for a late challenge on Carrillo. It was a bit of a lunge before Taylor played the advantage but Saints couldn't do anything with it. Ndiaye's was far worse than that.
39: There's been a bit of a lull in the game as Shaqiri again berates his team-mates when a ball goes astray. Leimina hasn't wasted a pass so far as Southampton come forward and Tadic's cross towards Carrillo is headed clear by Zouma.
36: Sims takes Hoedt's long clearance really well, what a first touch and he runs free down the left before Zouma does ever so well to make up the ground to slide in and concede the corner.
Stoke are again defending well as Carrillo can't connect with Bertrand's ensuing set piece.
36: After a bit of handbags, Allen clears Bertrand's low delivery at the near post.
34: Allen gets his body in the way of Bertrand and the ball before knocking the ball behind for another Saints corner. This time it's deep to Hoedt with Stephens winning the second ball but Stoke manage to clear.
No real attempts on goal so far for the hosts but they have another corner as Cameron heads behind.
30: FOUL! Badou Ndiaye gets away with another one as he goes in hard on Lemina. The ref is being very lenient as Lemina looks in some discomfort. That's a booking all day long, but Ndiaye escapes without punishment.
28: OVER! Tadic combines with Bertrand and the latter wins his side a corner off Bauer.
Sims comes across to take the inswinger, but he takes it short to Bertrand, the teasing cross is headed by Bauer as far as Cedric and that is in with the Southampton supporters.
25: Stoke City are getting into good areas but are just not taking advantage as Allen combines with Choupo-Moting before Kostas Stafylidis is invited onto the ball but his left-footed shot is over the bar by some distance.
He's now moved to left midfield with Pieters slotting in behind him at full-back.
23: SUB! Diouf gingerly hobbles off, he can barely move and is in fact being offered an oxygen mask as he is replaced by Erik Pieters. A change in system for Stoke with Choupo-Moting going further forward.
22: Referee Taylor hasn't taken any action. The Stoke players know exactly went on and are surprised by the lack of a booking.
A little bit of retribution from the Dutch centre-half, and there was no interest in the ball as he turned his back and connected with Diouf, who is being helped off the pitch now by medical staff. He's in a lot of pain.
19: OUCH! Diouf is down holding his wrist and shoulder. Hoedt came right through him to win the ball in the air but he certainly left something on the forward, and he's hurt Diouf. He meant that.
17: Lambert is a joy to watch on the touchline, and he told his players they need to make it happen themselves today.
He's kicking every ball out there and is again wearing a blue tracksuit, the same colour as his players.
May he be asked to change his top again, like last week at Leicester? Redmond's ball is drilled across goal but no one is there for Southampton.
