OX APOLOGISES TO FANS
MORE FROM WENGER
He told Sky Sports: "It’s a big disappointment when you lose a game like that. We
all have to take responsibility and prepare for our next games.
On set-piece defending, he added: "We work on the same system in every single game. Their
deliveries are absolutely fantastic and their movement is good. We were guilty especially
on the second goal but they score against anybody from set-pieces."
And on Sanchez's substitution: "We lost Sanchez. He stayed on but in the second half he was
not himself. I decided to take him off and his ankle doesn’t look good."
REDKNAPP ON 'SHAMBOLIC ARSENAL'
The Sky Sports pundit didn't hold back in his analysis of Arsenal's performance...
DAWSON SPEAKS TO SKY SPORTS
We hear from man-of-the-match Craig Dawson and goalscorer Hal Robson-Kanu...
WEST BROM 3-1 ARSENAL: FACTS & FIGURES
'A DIABOLICAL PERFORMANCE'
And Jamie Redknapp added...
the sort of performance that gets managers the sack. That was shambolic from Arsenal. I have never seen a team
at the top level, defending against a team we know are great from set-pieces,
defend like that.
"Surely somebody has told them before the game you need to be
very careful, McAuley, Dawson, they are monsters at set-pieces. You need
leaders in the dressing room, somebody has to be organising, but it was a
parting of the ways.
"I have not seen such shambolic defending. I feel so sorry
for those Arsenal fans that have come up in their droves. I thought there would
be a performance but that was diabolical.
"Arsene Wenger has taken a lot of
stick, I hope he’s in that dressing room telling those players exactly what he
thinks of them because they have let him down and let the club down."
'NOT ENOUGH DESIRE'
Thierry Henry just had this to say on Sky Sports on Arsenal's performance...
is not enough to have 77 per cent possession and you don’t do anything with it.
You play against a team with 23 per cent of the ball and they create more
chances, have more shots on target. What is that possession supposed to say?
"You have to do something with it and they had nowhere near the desire, commitment
and attitude required to win a game in the Premier League.
"We can talk about
whether Arsene Wenger or Alexis Sanchez will stay, let’s talk about West Brom.
You have to win at West Brom and they couldn’t do it. Especially the way they
lost, it was all about attitude."
PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE
And here's a look at the table as it stands...
MAN OF THE MATCH: CRAIG DAWSON
The West Brom defender scored his second and third Premier League goals of the season this afternoon.
WEST BROM 3-1 ARSENAL
FT: A huge win for West Brom, who move onto 43 points, four behind Everton having played a game more.
But it's a miserable day for the Gunners and defeat is likely to increase the pressure on Arsene Wenger. Their defending from corners was extremely poor, especially for Craig Dawson's two headed goals.
The other came from substitute Hal Robson-Kanu in controversial fashion, as Arsenal felt James McClean was offside when the Welshman poked home.
Alexis Sanchez, withdrawn to chants of 'You don't know what you're doing' late on, scored the visitors' only goal. They remain five points behind Liverpool having played a game less.
There were banners flown over The Hawthorns both for and against Wenger, who now faces a real battle to lift his side to reach the Champions League places.
90+2: Bellerin scampers forward and wins a corner for Arsenal. Xhaka takes for the visitors but it's too deep and Iwobi salvages it at the far post. He swings it in low and Field clears.
90: THREE minutes of added time...
90: SUB! West Brom make their final change, bringing on youngster Sam Field for Nacer Chadli.
88: Ramsey works the ball out to Mustafi down the right but the Germany international boots his cross straight into the Arsenal fans behind the goal. It's been a miserable day for the visitors.
86: The Oles can be heard at The Hawthorns now as West Brom really start to enjoy themselves. This is looking like a big win for them after back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton.
85: The Baggies win a free-kick midway inside the Arsenal half, McClean delivers but Welbeck clears. The game is being played in the wrong part of the pitch for Arsenal.
82: McClean surges forward and brings West Brom into the Arsenal half, earning a big ovation from the home fans.
As it stands Arsenal will be five points off Liverpool, who play Man City live on Super Sunday.
79: SUB! Sanchez is replaced by Alex Iwobi. There's a few 'You don't know what you're doing' chants from the away end now...
It has all gone wrong again for the Gunners and they are out to 80/1 with Sky Bet for victory. West Brom are trading at 1/16 and a draw is 12/1 - get all the in-play odds right here.
GOAL! WEST BROM 3-1 ARSENAL (Dawson, 75)
When you play West Brom you make sure your set-piece defending is watertight but this is really poor again from Arsenal, who give Dawson a free run to head home from a corner for the second time today.
The zonal marking just completely breaks down and Dawson goes past Ramsey, rises above the rest, and powers past Ospina. Too easy.
WEST BROM 2-1 ARSENAL
72: SUB! Pulis makes another substitution, bringing on Claudio Yacob for Chris Brunt.
70: Xhaka puts his free-kick straight into the wall. A waste.
69: Welbeck is clipped on the edge of the West Brom area by Brunt and this is a promising position for the visitors...
SATURDAY PRICE BOOST
SSPB involves Chelsea, Everton and Leicester - victories for all three teams
can now be backed at 9/1 from 7/1 - place your bets right here!
66: CHANCE! Should be 3-1! West Brom counter and Robson-Kanu is in behind Mustafi. Ospina hesitates and stays on his line - but Robson-Kanu still can't finish past the 'keeper anyway.
The ball then breaks to Chadli, who rounds Ospina, but his shot is cleared off the line by Mustafi. A lucky escape for Arsenal.
65: CROSSBAR! From Xhaka's corner, Welbeck rises highest at the back post and strikes the woodwork with his header. So unlucky.
Mustafi then takes a knock in the ensuing scramble, with the Baggies clearing their lines.
65: SUB! Here comes the change for Arsenal as Olivier Giroud replaces Theo Walcott, who has just won a corner for his side with his final action...
63: An instant impact from the substitute...
62: Olivier Giroud is warming up for Arsenal, as is Alex Iwobi. It can't be long before Arsene Wenger considers another change...
Another early goal to start the second half and West Brom have been trimmed to 5/6 by Sky Bet for victory. Arsenal are out to 9/2 and a draw is 2/1 while Hal Robson-Kanu has been PRICE BOOSTED to 13/2 from 6/1 to score a brace in the game. Get all the in-play odds here.
GOAL! WEST BROM 2-1 ARSENAL (Robson-Kanu, 55)
A bit of controversy about this one! After a conversation with his assistant, referee Neil Swarbrick awards the goal and West Brom have the lead again.
Ospina initially makes a mess of collecting a ball over the top under pressure from McClean and when it breaks to Robson-Kanu in the area, the substitute pokes it goalward.
McClean is now standing in an offside position but he lets the ball roll through his legs and into the empty net.
Swarbrick takes his time and speaks to his assistant referee before awarding the goal.
WEST BROM 1-1 ARSENAL
54: SUB! Tony Pulis' first change of the game sees Hal Robson-Kanu replace Salomon Rondon. A shake of the head from the Venezuelan, who heads straight down the tunnel.
52: Chadli has learned his lesson from the first half. He's not ball-watching on this occasion when Sanchez slips a through ball to Monreal. The West Brom attacker tracks the run and wins the ball cleanly in the box. A well-timed challenge.
50: A better delivery for Arsenal this time as Walcott rolls it across the six-yard area but no team-mate makes the necessary run. West Brom clear the resulting corner.
CHANCE! They counter and Rondon nods just wide from Brunt's excellent cross. Ospina was rooted.
49: All a bit scrappy to start the second half. Arsenal eventually work it out to Bellerin via Xhaka and Mustafi but the Spaniard's cross can't beat the first man. The visitors are on the front foot, though.
46: No changes at the break - Sanchez is able to continue - and we're back under way...
HT BET UPDATE
All square at the break after an early flurry of goals and Arsenal have eased slightly to 10/11 with Sky Bet to collect all three points. West Brom can be backed at 9/2 with a draw 15/8 while Danny Welbeck to score the third goal of the game has been PRICE BOOSTED to 6/1 from 5/1 and a final score of 3-2 to the Gunners is now 14s from 12s. Get all the in-play odds here.
HT: All square at the break after Alexis Sanchez cancelled out Craig Dawson's header.
Petr Cech, who has been forced off with what looks to be a calf injury, made an excellent save from Darren Fletcher before his substitution, while Ben Foster reacted smartly to deny Aaron Ramsey.
We've also had a couple of banners fly over The Hawthorns - one 'Wenger out' followed by an 'In Arsene We Trust'.
All to play for in the second half. Reaction and analysis from Jamie Redknapp and Thierry Henry on Sky Sports 1 HD now...
45+2: Arsenal are pressing as we approach half-time. Sanchez plays into Ramsey near the West Brom box but his ball for Welbeck is a little off. It hasn't quite clicked since that goal for Sanchez.
45: THREE minutes of added time...
44: Sanchez gingerly gets to his feet and limps off. It was a hefty knock to his ankle but it looks like he will attempt to continue, at least to half-time.
ON THE GANTRY
“It clear was a
foul, it’s a nasty-looking challenge from McClean. The referee was right to let
the game go on, giving Arsenal the chance to go forward before bringing play
back to issue the card.”
42: McClean flies in on Sanchez and referee Swarbrick plays a good advantage. Sanchez has stayed down though and Arsenal kick the ball out.
YELLOW! McClean is booked for the challenge. Not a good one.
37: SUB! The injured Cech is replaced by David Ospina. Cech limps off and it looks like a calf injury.
35: Cech goes to ground after playing a simple pass and he looks in trouble, immediately signalling to the bench he will need to come off. David Ospina is getting ready to come on...
encourages Fletcher to take the shot on first time. Cech’s positioning is brilliant
as too are his reactions and he makes a fine stop.”
