Carli Lloyd headed Manchester City Women to a 1-0 victory over Danish side Fortuna Hjorring in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

The United States midfielder charged forward to convert from eight yards in the 36th minute.

Lloyd's most famous goal of the 96 she has scored for the United States was a 55-yard strike to seal her hat-trick in the opening 16 minutes of the 2015 World Cup final.

This time it was more straightforward for City's new recruit, who recently joined the Women's Super League champions from the Houston Dash on a three-month deal.

Her target is to help Nick Cushing's team win this competition, and on her Champions League debut it was a typical burst forward from the 34-year-old that saw her make the breakthrough.

Jill Scott's driving run through midfield created an opening for Jane Ross to peel off down the left and sweep over the cross that Lloyd powerfully sent past goalkeeper Maria Christensen.
