Weekend football permutations: What are the ups and downs in England?
Saturday 21 April 2018 08:50, UK
We are approaching the climax of the 2017/18 season, and with trophies, promotions and relegations to be decided, we take a look at what can happen in English football this weekend...
Premier League
West Brom will go down this weekend if they are beaten by Liverpool on Saturday and Swansea pick up a point at Manchester City on Sunday.
Should West Brom draw then Swansea would need to beat City and Crystal Palace would need a point at Watford to relegate the Baggies.
Sky Bet Championship
Wolves won promotion last weekend and will seal the title with at least a point against Bolton on Saturday. They will also be guaranteed the trophy regardless of their result if Cardiff slip up against Nottingham Forest in the evening kick-off.
Sunderland will be relegated if they lose to Burton and if two of the following results happen: Bolton avoid defeat to Wolves; Birmingham avoid defeat to Sheffield United; Barnsley beat Leeds. Sunderland will also be down if they drop points and Bolton and Birmingham win.
Burton, meanwhile, will be relegated if they fail to win and Bolton and Birmingham win.
Sky Bet League One
Wigan can secure promotion if they win at Fleetwood and Shrewsbury fail to beat Bury.
Sky Bet League Two
Accrington can clinch the title on Saturday if they win at Wycombe and Luton lose at Carlisle.
The Hatters, however, can secure promotion if they win or Exeter lose at home to Crawley. A draw or defeat would also be enough for Luton if the Grecians fail to better their result.
Chesterfield will go down if they lose to Forest Green, Grimsby win at Swindon and Morecambe get at least a point at Crewe.
Barnet could be relegated if they lose, Forest Green avoid defeat and Grimsby win. Barnet will also go down if they draw, Morecambe avoid defeat and Forest Green and Grimsby win.
