Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has suggested his own club has misquoted him over his prospected injury return.

The £49m left-back, who has been out since September with a knee injury, questioned "where or when" he was quoted by Manchester City's social media as saying the derby against Manchester United was a "realistic aim".

Replying to a City tweet on Friday he said: "Hummm not sure where or when I said that but ... calm down guys, no rush or pressure it will take as long as I need until I'm 100%."

City attributed a quote to the 23-year-old earlier in the day that said: "The Manchester derby is a realistic aim. That's half clear in my mind. I really want to play that game.

"I am coming back a bit quicker than expected. I think it's possible for me to come back in four weeks."
