Sky sources understand former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has held talks with Pedro Caixinha about the possibility of joining his coaching staff.

It is understood that Ferguson, who won five top flight titles and five Scottish Cups over two spells at Ibrox, spoke with Caixinha on Wednesday regarding the role.

We also understand that the Portuguese met with two other former Rangers players in John Brown and Peter Lovenkrands, but has yet to decide on who will complete his backroom staff.

Caixinha, who started his tenure as Rangers boss with a 4-0 win over Hamilton, said he was keen to bring in someone familiar with the club to join his backroom team and "make the bridge" as he looks to learn more about the Gers and Scottish football.

"We have a list of candidates [to be assistant boss]." Caixinha said. "We are going to have someone that can give me that knowledge, someone that is really linked with the history and tradition of this club and how big it is to represent this club."

Ferguson, who also won five Scottish League Cups with Rangers, resigned as manager of League Two side Clyde last month with the team sitting eighth in the division. He also had a brief spell as caretaker boss at Blackpool in 2014.

Brown won nine consecutive Scottish titles as part of Rangers' nine-in-a-row winning team and worked as part of the club's coaching staff after retiring before having spells in charge of Clyde and Dundee.
