Sergi Roberto signs new four-and-a-half-year deal at Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto has signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal with a release clause of £441 million.

The Catalan club announced the contract extension a day after Gerard Pique also signed a new deal that will see him remain at the Nou Camp until June 2022.

Roberto came through the famed Barcelona youth system, and has become a first-team regular under manager Ernesto Valverde.

The player is known for his versatility on the pitch and is commonly used as a right-back for the current league leaders.

Barcelona currently sit top of La Liga, eight points clear of second place Atletico Madrid while rivals Real Madrid trail Valverde's side by 19 points.

Since signing his professional contract with the club in 2011, the 25-year-old has made a total of 178 appearances and scored seven goals.
