WATCH: GOOCH'S LATE WINNER
Here's how Lynden Gooch headed the late winner for Sunderland!
SUNDERLAND 2-1 CHARLTON
FULL-TIME! What an ending at the Stadium of Light. A win with virtually the last kick (or head) of the game and Sunderland kick off their League One campaign with a victory.
GOAL! SUNDERLAND 2-1 CHARLTON (Gooch, 90+6)
Another day in the Sky Bet EFL and another last-gasp winner. We saw a brilliant headed winner from Tom Lawrence for Derby last night and this one might just have been a little bit better!
Sunderland press forward and ball in from Oviedo on the left finds Lynden Gooch in the box, who gets absolutely everything he has behind it to power it across Phillips and into the top corner.
The Black Cats faithful go wild!
SUNDERLAND 1-1 CHARLTON
90+3: SUB! Luke Molyneux replaces Jerome Sinclair, who hobbles off.
90+1: Six minutes added on for someone to find a winner.
90: SUB! Charlton make their first change as Naby Sarr replaces Jason Pearce, who is forced off after that challenge.
87: YELLOW! Gooch goes into the book for Sunderland after a poor challenge on Pearce.
84: WHAT A CHANCE! Sunderland should be in front. Oviedo puts the ball into a fantastic area in the six-yard box and Sinclair, on the slide, somehow manages to steer it wide.
81: YELLOW! Solly goes into the book after pulling down Sinclair.
WATCH: MAJA LEVELS FOR SUNDERLAND
Here's how Josh Maja equalised for Sunderland...
77: SAVE! Maguire's set-pieces have improved considerably over the course of the afternoon. This time he has a shot from a free-kick which Phillips does brilliantly to get across to his left to beat away.
CHANCE! Right after that Sunderland have another chance as a hung-up cross finds Maja, but he can't generate enough power with the header and it's straight at Phillips from six yards.
75: Charlton win another corner and this time it's a better delivery that finds the head of Bauer, but he can only guide his header wide.
73: Charlton have their first chance in a while as they win a corner, but the ball in doesn't even beat the first man. Dismal.
70: More than 30,000 at the Stadium of Light this afternoon. Remarkable support in Sky Bet League One.
68: The Black Cats have their tails up now. They've gone straight back on the attack and are starting to look confident. This game has turned on its head.
GOAL! SUNDERLAND 1-1 CHARLTON (Maja, 65)
Where has this come from?! Josh Maja gets the ball with his back to goal just inside the corner of the 18-yard box, and there doesn't look to be any real danger until he turns sharply and sneaks a low ball just inside the near post!
Maybe a few question marks over Phillips in the Charlton goal, but it all happened so fast. All square!
SUNDERLAND 0-1 CHARLTON
63: Honeyman tries to take the game to Charlton as he turns on the engines and tries to charge through the yellow wall. He gets into the box but has too many men around him and he gets seen out of play.
60: We're back under way and it's still Sunderland with all the ball, but they're not doing enough to get behind Charlton's defence.
Bowyer will be very happy with things so far.
57: Nasty cut to the forehead of Solly after that collision, but it looks like he'll eventually be okay to continue after a magic sponge and a bandage or two.
55: OUCH! There was actually a nasty clash of heads between Sinclair and Solly, with the Charlton defender coming off worse from it. Both require medical attention.
54: Matthews goes for a jaunt into deep into Charlton territory and it keeps opening up for him as he gets into the box. He then has a pop which ricochets up for Sinclair, but he can't get any purchase on his header.
53: Marshall cuts in from the right and tries to catch out McLaughlin, who had just stepped off his line, by trying to curl one inside the near post. It's a good effort but the goalkeeper is across well to avoid any embarrassment.
51: It's all Sunderland at the minute. Gooch gets down the right and whips a ball across the box, but it just evades all his team-mates.
48: Sinclair making his impact early on as he takes a good touch away from his marker and wins Sunderland a free-kick 25 yards out...
It comes to nothing.
SECOND HALF! We're back under way over on Sky Sports Football!
SUB! Sunderland make their second change as Luke O'Nien makes way for Jerome Sinclair.
HALF-TIME! And with that we're at the break at the Stadium of Light. Charlton lead thanks to Lyle Taylor's 10th-minute penalty.
45+2: BIG CHANCE! Golden opportunity for Sunderland. Maguire picks the ball up in space 25 yards from goal and his poor attempt at a shot ends up being a perfect through ball for Maja.
The young striker HAS to hit it after his first touch, but decides to take another while clean through on goal and it gives Phillips the chance to rush out and deny him.
45: CHANCE! Maguire's corner finds Loovens, who heads it on to Oztumer at the back stick, but he can't quite turn it towards goal.
Three minutes added on.
43: Sunderland ending the first half strongly. Oviedo drives the ball across the box but Maja can't do enough to turn it towards goal.
YELLOW! Just before that Jason Pearce went into the book for Charlton.
39: Marshall has the chance to get a free-kick into the box for Charlton but McLaughlin comes out to collect it brilliantly. The goalkeeper has been a great presence in goal for Sunderland so far.
35: This time he does put it into the box and it's a great delivery right across the six-yard line. Unfortunately, though, no one from either side can get a touch on it and it bounces out for a goal kick.
34: YELLOW! Gooch looking like Sunderland's main threat so far. He's hauled down by Page again and this time the Charlton left-back goes into the book.
Another free-kick for Maguire to take...
31: Really poor from Sunderland again. Another free-kick in a great position is wasted as they attempt to take it short and don't complete the first pass. Get it in the box.
30: CHANCE! Page gets down the left and puts a ball into the box, it's only half cleared as it falls to Lapslie, but his weak effort is kept out by McLaughlin.
29: Charlton very comfortable as we approach the half-hour mark. Sunderland yet to really gel or get going, not surprisingly considering how new the team is.
A nice touch after the goal from Taylor as he held up a shirt in tribute for his injured team-mate Jake Forster-Caskey.
26: SUB! Donald Love's opening day lasts 26 minutes. He's replaced by Bryan Oviedo for Sunderland.
25: SAVE! Pratley has a pop from range that's heading for the top corner, but McLaughlin gets across well to keep it out.
22: Early injury concern from Love after seeing his ankle give way. Short break in play as he receives some treatment.
WATCH: TAYLOR OPENS THE SCORING
Here's how Lyle Taylor put Charlton in front from the penalty spot at the Stadium of Light...
18: Maguire tries a clever one as he pulls it back for Honeyman, but it doesn't reach his team-mate. Poor from Sunderland.
17: A fair amount of rash challenges going in so far. Page is the latest guilty party as he hauls down Gooch on the edge of the area. Maguire has the chance to put a free-kick into the box...
14: Grant has had a cracking start here. He switches to the left and causes problems again as he finds a ball into the box, and Marshall is inches away from getting his head on it.
12: Well all the positively around the Stadium of Light lasts for 10 minutes or so. Charlton take a well-deserved lead and you wonder how Jack Ross and his side will respond now. Still, plenty of time to go.
GOAL! SUNDERLAND 0-1 CHARLTON (Taylor, 10 pen)
Lyle Taylor is far better from the penalty spot than he is from a free-kick. Cool as you like from the striker as he puts it top right. McLaughlin went the right way but couldn't get to it.
SUNDERLAND 0-0 CHARLTON
8: PENALTY TO CHARLTON! Grant gets away from his man brilliantly and surges into the box, and Maguire brings him down in the box...
The midfielder is also booked for his trouble.
7: Grant is the man over it this time, but it hits the wall and goes over. Corner to Charlton.
But it comes to nothing.
6: Charlton have started better here and Lapslie, another new signings, wins a free-kick right on the edge of the area after a rash lunge from Ozturk.
3: OVER! First chance for Lyle Taylor to make an impression in the Charlton shirt, but he hacks a free-kick from 25 yards over the bar.
KICK-OFF! The 2018/19 Sky Bet League One season is under way at the Stadium of Light!!
