Palermo in frame for De Jong

Palermo are rumoured to be readying themselves to join the race for Nigel de Jong.

Italian outfit Palermo are rumoured to be readying themselves to join the race for Ajax's coveted starlet Nigel de Jong.

Dutch international de Jong has informed Ajax that he will be moving on when his contract expires in the summer and his availability has alerted a clutch of clubs.

Arsenal and Manchester United are admirers of the 21-year-old, while Spanish outfit Sevilla and German titans Borussia Dortmund are also enamoured with de Jong.

Dortmund are rumoured to be in pole position for the versatile midfielder, but they could face rival interest from Italy in the guise of Palermo.

Palermo are looking to open talks with the Dutch international in January, ahead of a possible summer move.

The Italian side are also expected to be active in January, as reports say they will complete a swap deal with Parma concerning keepers Matteo Guardalben and Cristiano Lupatelli.

Guardalben will leave Rosanero to join Gialloblu, with Lupatelli heading in the opposite direction, both on six-month loan deals.
