UNITED PREPARE DUDEK OFFER

EXCLUSIVE
DUTCH sources have claimed that Manchester United are set to make an offer for Feyenoord`s Polish international goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

The highly-rated number one played for Feyenoord in their defeat at Chelsea in the Champions League, and he is reckoned to be flattered by the interest of the Old Trafford giants.

Martin Ferguson, United`s head scout, has been a regular visitor to Rotterdam to keep tabs on Dudek and he has concluded that the player is of the desired quality. A final check was made in the international against France on Wednesday.

The bid is likely to be in the region of £3.6 million, almost as much as Sir Alex Ferguson paid for Italian misfit Massimo Taibi, but it could still be rejected by Feyenoord.

The club from Stadion Feijenoord are hopeful of tying their keeper to a new contract, as they offered him a lucrative five-year deal only last week.

United boss Ferguson is still seeking another keeper, although Mark Bosnich has confirmed his position as the club`s number one, even despite his kicking weakness. Taibi is on loan at Reggina and unlikely to regain his place at Old Trafford next season, while Raimond van der Gouw is approaching his 37th birthday.

Wimbledon`s Neil Sullivan is an alternative option. The Scottish international was outstanding during Saturday`s 2-2 draw, he often saves his best performances for matches against the Treble winners, and he will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
