Real Madrid and Milan were both rumoured to be tracking the youngster after his eye-opening impact on The Premiership this term, although Everton have been quick to play down the speculation.
However, Inter director Gabriele Oriali has confirmed that his club would be quick to move for the 17-year-old, should an option to secure his services become available.
"As for other young international players, I appreciate Rooney a lot," admitted Oriali.
"It's clear that if there was to be the occasion for an option, we won't be unprepared."
Everton are of course likely to give little interest to Oriali's remarks having already stated their intention to tie Rooney to Goodison Park long-term, but it proves once again that football's big-guns have been alerted to the young Merseysider's talents.
Oriali went on to again declare the Milan outfit's interest in a host of other players - including Santiago Solari and Ryan Giggs - but conceded that young Nigerian Cristian Odobo was top of their wish-list.
"At first I would like to talk about Odobo," said Oriali.
"I like him so much, he's a great player".
On the protracted Solari deal, the Inter director reiterated the news that his club had made the Argentine an offer on which they weren't prepared to move.
"We want to end the negotiation as soon as possible, one way or the other.
"Now he has to decide if he will accept the transfer or not.
"We need a clear answer, because we need to think about our future plans."
Oriali then outlined Inter's interest in Giggs, but conceded that any deal was still a long way off.
"It's obvious that on talk about Giggs, probably the best left wing in the world, I can't say that we aren't interested in him.
"He's a big player and for this Inter is seeing him with particular attention.
"But saying that we'll buy him, it's incorrect."
