Fergie to decide Veron fate

JUAN SEBASTIAN VERON'S agent Fernando Hidalgo has revealed Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson holds the key to whether the Argentine ace remains at Old Trafford.

With moneybags Chelsea reportedly eyeing a swoop for the South American, the former Lazio man is keen to know if he features in the Scot's plans next season.

Veron has three years remaining on his deal with The Red Devils, but hinted he could leave the Premiership champions should talks with Ferguson fail to bear fruit.

Chelsea are believed to be offering around £14 million for the playmaker, although chief executive Peter Kenyon claims there have been no firm bids for the midfielder.

"I think the player wants one more year at United," said Hidalgo.

"He wants to repay the club for the faith they have shown in investing in him, and he wants to prove to Sir Alex that he is still a good player.

"He will talk to Ferguson because he wouldn't want to leave if the manager sees a future for him at the club.

"I think the talks planned between Veron and Ferguson will be critical as to whether Chelsea's interest in the player comes to anything."

With United now in the hunt for Atletico Paranaense ace Kleberson, Veron's departure could fund their swoop for the Brazilian World Cup winner.

However, Kenyon told Fox Sports: "We are not in possession of any firm bids from Chelsea in regards to Seba."
