Manchester United have been long-standing suitors of the central defender and Rio Ferdinand's impending eight-month suspension has sparked fresh rumours of a bid from the Premiership champions.
Newcastle United are also admirers of the stopper while clubs in Serie A, most notably Juventus, are keen to prise van Buyten, who is rated at £15 million, away from Stade Velodrome.
French outfit Marseille, though, are desperate to retain van Buyten's services and are adamant he will not depart during the transfer window.
L'OM chairman Christophe Bouchet claims to have several offers for the coveted centre half but refused to unmask the identity of the bidders.
"We have offers from England and Italy for van Buyten," confirmed Bouchet.
"I won't say who the clubs are but, for the moment, we don't have the intention to sell Daniel."
Bouchet did concede l'OM would have to offload members of their squad to acquire fresh faces in the New Year but acknowledged it would be fringe players who will be sacrificed.
He added: "It will be a question of opportunity for players like (Johnny) Ecker, (Sebastien) Perez or (Abdoulaye) Meite because we don't have the intention to sell them for nothing."
