Vieira: 'We are still the best'

Patrick Vieira has warned Arsenal's tital rivals that they are still the number one team in the country.

Patrick Vieira has warned Manchester United and Chelsea that Arsenal are still the number one team in the country.

Despite the sensational arrival of Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford and Chelsea's unbeaten start to the season under Jose Mourinho, the Arsenal captain insists that his side remain the top team in The Premiership.

The current champions are unbeaten in 48 league games, a record that has made Vieira confident that they will be top of the pile come the end of the season.

However, the Frenchman is aware that Arsenal will be pushed all the way in the title race.

He admitted: "It will be a really difficult season for every team.

"I think this year Chelsea will be there until the end because they have got quite a strong squad of 20 players and, of course Manchester United will be there as well. They know how to win the title.

"I think teams like Newcastle and Middlesbrough can surprise a lot of people but I think we are still the best team in the country."

The 28-year-old is adamant that it is not the senior players who will keep the rest at bay but the young guns who represent the future of the club.

He said: "With so many new players coming through at Arsenal it is really exciting for the fans.

"When you see talent such as Gael Clichy, Kolo Toure, Cesc Fabregas and Ashley Cole who is still really young, the future looks really bright for the club."
