Silvestre in Arsenal claim

Mikael Silvestre claims he was lured into a trap for his sending off against Arsenal.

Mikael Silvestre claims he was lured into a trap for his sending off against Arsenal at the start of February.

The Manchester United defender was given his marching orders by referee Graham Poll for head-butting Freddie Ljungberg.

Silvestre's dismissal midway through the second half forced United into a staunch rearguard action before they secured a 4-2 victory at Highbury.

But, while Silvestre has no qualms with the first red card of his United career, the France international feels he was set-up by the opposition.

The 27-year-old has accused the Arsenal players of laying a trap for him and it is a mistake he will not repeat in a hurry.

"I have never been sent off for United before," said Silvestre.

"I remember being sent off at Rennes in my first season when I had two yellow cards but never a straight red.

"I fell into a trap. It was a mistake.

"I'll know next time what is going to happen so I won't fall into that trap again.

"Also, I wasn't prepared for the game mentally. I was prepared to win the game, to win battles, to win challenges, but not to face that attitude."
