Jonny Evans admits he would be happy to spend another season on loan at Sunderland, if Manchester United agree to a deal.
The Northern Ireland international has enjoyed the second half of the campaign at The Stadium of Light, having been at Royal Antwerp earlier in the season.
He is rated highly by United, but concedes he would prefer to play regular football with Sunderland, if Sir Alex Ferguson is happy to sanction another loan deal.
"Would I consider coming here again next season? Definitely," Evans told the Daily Express.
"I don't know Manchester United's plans for me, because I've been so focused on doing my job here and trying to help get them promoted, but I've enjoyed it so much I'd definitely think about staying if they wanted me and United let me.
"I'd rather be playing every week than sitting on the bench. You have to have faith in your ability, but be realistic.
"When you look at the defenders there are at Old Trafford, you have to accept, as a 19-year-old learning your trade, you're not going to keep them out of the team every week."
Sunderland boss Roy Keane hopes to hang on to Evans next term, along with fellow United youngster Danny Simpson, who also joined on loan in January.
Keane told the Northern Echo: "You have to have hope in this game. We've got him (Evans) on loan until the end of the season and we'll see what happens after that.
"You're always hoping that maybe there's a chance of another loan deal, but I've not even spoken to United about that because the manager has enough on his plate at the moment.
"We've got other good players at the club and if, come the end of the season, we are without Jonny and Danny, we'll get on with it. We'll cross all of those bridges when we come to them."
