Platt names squad

DAVID PLATT has selected a 22-man squad for the England Under-21s` double-header next month.

England's young lions tackle Serbia & Montenegro in a friendly on June 2 before locking horns with Slovakia in a crunch European Championships qualifier on June 10.

Under-21 coach Platt has named an experienced squad for the two fixtures starting with the encounter against Serbia & Montenegro at Hull's Kingston Communications Stadium.

The Slovakia clash is being staged at Stadium of Light and will be pivotal in determining England's prospects for qualifying for the finals.

West Ham showpony Joe Cole heads the 22, along with team-mates Stephen Bywater, Glen Johnson and the wantaway Jermain Defoe with the quartet hoping to end the season on a high note after their club's relegation from The Premiership.
