Ranieri drops Davids hint

CHELSEA coach Claudio Ranieri has avoided questions about Juventus' Edgar Davids, but hinted that a bid has been made.

Sources in Italy are suggesting that The Blues, with the backing of new owner Roman Abramovich, have lodged a ‚é¼16 million bid for the Dutch star.

Juve, though, are believed to have told Chelsea that they will have to pay ‚é¼25 million to land him.

Ranieri, who himself has admitted to having an uncertain future at Chelsea, fended off any direct questioning about the former Milan star.

"You will have to ask Moggi," Ranieri told Domenica Sportiva, referring to Juve's general manager Luciano Moggi - suggesting that The Blues had in fact made a bid.

With just one year left on his contract Davids has been quoted as saying that a transfer to England does appeal.

It would seem, however, that Juve will have to lower their asking price for the Surinam-born ace - to open the door on any possible move to The Premiership.

On his own role, Ranieri stated that his new Russian boss has told him he was not going to axe him.

He added: "He has confirmed his faith in me, so I am already thinking about the Champions League preliminaries."
