Agent: Mutu is destroyed

The agent of Adrian Mutu has claimed his client is 'destroyed' over recent events.

The agent of Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu, Gheorge Popescu, has revealed that his client is devastated after failing a drugs test.

Mutu has been at the centre of a furore, after a national newspaper named him as the Premiership player who has failed a random drugs test.

Popescu has revealed that Chelsea have conceded that Mutu has failed a test but that the substance used would not be disclosed.

''Chelsea confirmed to me that Mutu had tested positive but did not reveal the substance,'' said Popescu.

''Chelsea said that the drug would not be disclosed under a confidentiality clause.''

The PFA have advised Mutu to wait for the results of the B sample but Popescu believes this is merely delaying the inevitable.

''I told him not to ask for the second sample so as not to prolong his agony,'' he continued.

''I told him that almost always the second sample confirms the first sample.

''He seemed not to understand what I told him.

''Mutu is destroyed. I told him to assume full responsibility for his actions but he seemed not to understand what it really means.

''We'll discuss his future after we see what Chelsea decide.''
