Fifa ready to take Mutu action

Fifa will demand Adrian Mutu serves a hefty punishment for his failed drugs test.

Fifa will demand Adrian Mutu serves a hefty punishment for his failed drugs test in case the Football Association are lenient on the Chelsea man.

The troubled striker was revealed as the player to have failed a drugs test back in September earlier this week.

Mutu confessed his guilt and he is hoping by doing that and undergoing psychological counseling he will receive leniency from The FA.

Fifa are ready to act if they feel The FA's action is not to their liking insisting Mutu must face a suspension for the offence.

Fifa's disciplinary code stipulates that a first doping offence should be followed by a six-month suspension and football's governing body are keeping tabs on the matter.

"Our disciplinary code is quite clear. It calls for a minimum ban plus a fine," Fifa's Marcus Ziegler told the Mail on Sunday.

"We will intervene if the minimum sanctions are not given."
