Mutu set for new club

Adrian Mutu's agent has claimed his client will join a new club within a matter of weeks.

Adrian Mutu's agent Gheorghe Popescu has claimed his client will join a new club within a matter of weeks.

The disgraced Chelsea striker, who was sacked by The Blues at the end of last month and banned for seven months, is available on a free transfer.

Popescu is in talks with a number of clubs and is hoping a swift solution can be found regarding Mutu's future.

The Romanian will not be returning to his homeland or joining a Ukraine outfit, but instead will be penning a deal with a major European force.

"We've made contact with several European clubs," Gheorghe Popescu told Reuters.

"For sure, Mutu's new club will not be a Romanian or a Ukrainian club. It will be a strong Western European club.

"The best for Mutu is to sign with a new team as soon as possible. Within two or three weeks, he will sign with a new club."

Mutu feared for his future after being axed by Chelsea and is relieved he can now look forward to a future in the game.

"I am still disappointed with myself but now, because I know what I'm going to do and know what the ban is, I can breathe easier," said Mutu to Football Focus.

"I needed help and expected Chelsea to help me and I think he (Peter Kenyon) wasn't so fair.

"They terminated my contract before The FA made a decision. I made a mistake and I know that now and I am very sorry about this."
